Each year the city of New York makes approximately 5 billion dollars from film and television production. Most residents of the city complain about the inconvenience the hundreds of crews cause but a select few are renting out their homes to appear in television and in film. It seems that once your home is portrayed on the big screen its worth more and the money you can make is lucrative.

At any given time there are more than 70 crews working within the city so it’s possible to see your home on television, even if it’s not the focal point of the scene. Several owners will be making a substantial profit in the next year following the production of MTV’s 21st season of the original reality program The Real World. In addition music mogul Sean Combs is scheduled to start shooting in Tribeca for his own reality program. Manhattan skyscrapers and apartment buildings are often featured in films and each one brings in a nice profit for the owner. Residents enjoy getting the chance to be up close and personal with the film sets, regardless of the occasionally problems they cause.

Many who have rented out their homes for production warn those who are considering renting out their homes that it’s not a walk in the park. During production homes can be destroyed or badly damaged, though this is rare. More likely you will end up with a trampled yard and a few dents. Either way, if you can handle the stress it’s a great way to make some quick cash and maybe make your home a tourist attraction.
